SV Darmstadt 98 faced FC Koln in a crucial away match that saw German-born Ghanaian centre-forward Aaron Seydel forced to exit prematurely due to an injury.

Seydel, who has been plagued by injuries this season, was substituted at half-time with adductor problems, with Matthias Honsak taking his place on the field.

Head coach Torsten Lieberknecht confirmed Seydel’s injury at the post-game press conference, raising concerns about the forward’s availability for the upcoming home game against FC Heidenheim on April 28.

The 28-year-old has played 14 games this season, scoring once in the Bundesliga for SV Darmstadt 98, who currently sit in 18th place on the league table with 17 points after 30 games.

Despite Seydel’s absence, SV Darmstadt 98 managed to secure a victory over FC Koln, thanks to goals from Christoph Klarer in the 57th minute and Oscar Vilhelmsson in the 90th minute.

However, Seydel’s injury overshadowed the win and added to the team’s struggles as they fought to climb up the league table in the remaining games of the season.

With a question mark hanging over Seydel’s fitness, SV Darmstadt 98 will have to navigate the challenges ahead without one of their key players. The team will be hoping for a swift recovery for Seydel as they aim to secure crucial points in their bid to avoid relegation.
