The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported 31 new cases of COVID-19 in the country over the past week. Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, the Programmes Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization at the Ghana Health Service, reassured the public that these new cases are not severe.

During a media interaction in Accra, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano disclosed that a vaccination exercise will kick off on Sunday, May 5, as part of efforts to control the spread of the virus. He emphasized the importance of vaccination in combating the ongoing battle against COVID-19.

“In the past week, we observed a rise in the number of cases, but this is not unexpected. COVID-19 is here to stay with us, and that is why we continue to prioritize vaccination,” Dr. Amponsah-Achiano stated.

The national COVID-19 vaccination exercise is scheduled to take place from 5th to 9th May, with the goal of reducing and minimizing the impact of the virus in Ghana. The Ghana Health Service is committed to implementing strategies to combat the virus and protect the health and well-being of the population.

As Ghana continues to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19, vaccination remains a crucial tool in the fight against the pandemic. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming vaccination exercise to safeguard themselves and their communities against the virus.
