Dreams FC head coach Karim Zito has highlighted poor officiating as a major factor contributing to the team’s challenges in the current Ghana Premier League season. The team currently sits in 14th place on the league table with 31 points, despite having a game in hand.

Zito believes that the team’s demanding schedule, which includes balancing domestic league fixtures with CAF commitments, has taken a toll on the players. He pointed out the fatigue and pressure that come with frequent travel for matches, emphasizing the impact it has had on their performance.

“The players have to deal with tiredness and pressure from playing league matches as well as the Confederation Cup. Travelling is very difficult, with matches on Sundays and Wednesdays, in addition to playing in Africa. It puts a lot of pressure on the boys,” Zito explained to Graphic Sports.

The coach also expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating standards in the Ghana Premier League, stating that it has negatively affected their domestic performance. However, he remains hopeful about their chances in Africa, citing better playing conditions and officiating standards on the continent.

“Officiating is very poor in the league, which is one of the reasons we are struggling domestically. But in Africa, the pitches are good and the officiating is better, which is why we are performing well there,” Zito added.

Despite their domestic struggles, Dreams FC is gearing up for a crucial match against Zamalek SC in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals. The first leg is set to take place at the Cairo International Stadium, with Zito and his team set to depart Ghana on Thursday for the much-anticipated encounter.
