The Ghana Football Association has provided a positive update on midfielder Majeed Ashimeru’s injury sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match against Egypt.

The Ghana FA reports that, in spite of worries about his value to the team, Ashimeru does not appear to have suffered any major injuries.

“Majeed Ashimeru has made significant progress on the injury he sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations group B game against Egypt on Thursday,” said the statement. “The midfielder picked up a knock in the first half and was later substituted in the second half.”

“The medical staff gave him a thorough evaluation following the game, and on Friday, more examinations were performed. The medical staff will continue to evaluate him before training on Saturday afternoon because they are optimistic about the progress made.”

Having started the first two matches against Cape Verde and Egypt, the Anderlecht player is expected to make his third appearance for Ghana in a row.

Ashimeru played a great game in the thrilling 2-2 match against Egypt, despite a disallowed goal in the first game. In order for the Black Stars to win and advance to the tournament’s round of 16, they must defeat Mozambique. He is hoping to be healthy for that match.
