Ghana’s appalling performance at the present AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire has prompted an apology from the Ghana Football Association.

Ghana came in third amongst Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in their group, missing out on a spot in the Round of 16.

The Black Stars’ wait for their fifth AFCON trophy has now lasted 42 years after they were eliminated from the tournament during the group stages for the second time in a row.

“We understand the disappointment and frustration that such results can bring to our passionate football-loving nation,” the GFA stated in a statement issued on January 30, 2024. We are all disappointed with the way our squad performed; we accept full responsibility for the letdown.”

“We are grateful for our stakeholders’ steadfast support, and we promise to work nonstop with you to build a more capable and formidable team. Our determination to restore and raise the bar for Ghanaian football is fueled by your devotion and enthusiasm”.

“We are grateful for your patience during this difficult period, and we’re still committed to giving the Ghana Black Stars the honor and prosperity that we all deserve.” We will come out stronger and more resilient as a team.”

Following Chris Hughton’s resignation as head coach of the Black Stars, the Ghana FA has already declared that they have started the process of finding a replacement coach and have established a five-person committee to do so.
