The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed the resignation of Laryea Kingston as head coach of the Black Starlets following the team’s exit from the ongoing 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations.
The Black Starlets suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Burkina Faso in the semifinals, resulting in Kingston’s decision to step down.
According to a statement released by the GFA, Kingston’s resignation was accepted after he failed to attend the team’s evening meeting with the Management Committee and did not report to the Team Hotel. The GFA accepted his resignation and acknowledged the decision.
With the third-place playoff match against Nigeria looming, scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the Assistant Coaches will take charge of the team in Kingston’s absence.
The loss to Burkina Faso not only ended Ghana’s run in the tournament but also dashed their hopes of qualifying for the U17 AFCON for the third straight time, leaving fans and supporters disappointed.
