On the Vodacom Origins of Golf tour, George Coetzee won his first-ever Sunshine Tour victory. His passion for the game was evident as he successfully defended his title at De Zalze Golf Club on Saturday.
The 36-year-old South African won by two strokes in the Winelands to earn his fifth victory overall on the Vodacom Origins of Golf tour, which began 15 years ago with a victory by him in his first year on the Sunshine Tour.
With this accomplishment, he moves up to second place overall in the series, trailing only behind Jean Hugo, who has 11 titles.
Joe Long of England challenged Coetzee, but he withstood it and finished with a 67 to take the victory on 21 under par. With three holes left, Long had pulled within a shot of Coetzee, but after bogeying the 18th, he moved into second place on 19 under with a final round of 67.
All credit goes to his South African parents who have been immensely pivotal in his upbringing right from his talent discovery. Sadly his biological parents are not really known to the general public
