According to reports, legendary American composer and musician Gary Wright, real name Gary Malcolm Wright, has passed away.
On Monday, September 4, 2023, at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, Wright passed away at the age of 80. He was best known for the tracks “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive,” both of which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list.

His death’s cause has not yet been made public as of the date of this writing (Tuesday, September 5). But a few years ago, he received a dementia and Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.
Wright worked as a kid performer in radio and TV ads. He played in high school bands, but after deciding that music was “too unstable” to pursue professionally, he chose to pursue medical training in the US.
In Europe, Wright gave up medicine for music, joining the British blues rock band Spooky Tooth in 1967 as co-lead vocalist before starting a solo career in 1970.
