Popular British singer, songwriter, pianist Gary Brooker MBE has died at age 76. He died on February 19, 2022, at his home.

Gary was the founder and lead singer of the rock band Procol Harum.

In recognition of his contributions to philanthropy, he was awarded the OBE in honor of the Queen on 14 June 2003.

Brooke was born at Hackney Hospital in East London on 29 May 1945 and grew up in Hackney before the family moved to Middlesex.

His father, Harry Brooker, was a professional musician who played pedal steel guitar along with Felix Mendelssohn’s Hawaiian Serenade.

As a child, Brooker learned to play the piano, cornet and trombone.
