Gabriel James Byrne, an Irish actor, director, producer, screenwriter, audiobook narrator, and author, was born on May 12, 1950. Before moving on to London’s Royal Court Theatre in 1979, he began his acting career with the Focus Theatre. The Irish drama serial The Riordans and its spin-off, Bracken, featured Byrne’s debut on television.
He has appeared in more than 70 movies for some of the most renowned filmmakers. He has been recognized for his work on Broadway with two Tony nominations for his performances in pieces by Eugene O’Neill and the Outer Critics Circle Award for A Touch of the Poet. Byrne has received three Emmy nominations for his work on television.
He received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Paul Weston in the HBO American drama In Treatment (2008–2010), one of his most recognizable roles, for which he also received nominations for two Emmy Awards and two Satellite Awards.
