The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has applauded the efforts of those who took part in the Homowo clean-up exercise in selected parts of Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) on July 13. During an inspection tour of the areas, he expressed his satisfaction with the cleanliness of the streets and praised the participants for their contributions.
The clean-up exercise, which was the first phase of the one-month Homowo clean-up initiative, was a joint effort between the Ga Mantse, government agencies, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. The Ga Mantse, accompanied by senior officers of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) and Asafoatsemei of the Ga State, visited locations such as Rawlings Park, CMB, Makola, and Tudu to assess the progress.
Assuring that the exercise will continue beyond the Homowo festivities, the Ga Mantse emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the city. He warned that a special task force would patrol Accra to ensure that sanitation by-laws are adhered to, with offenders facing prosecution.
Furthermore, the Ga Mantse called for peace during the upcoming December 7 elections, urging all citizens to play their part in ensuring a peaceful and fair poll. The 5-hour clean-up exercise was led by a dedicated team of Asafoatsemei, Asafoanymei, and environmental sanitation officers, supported by Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
Zoomlion provided the necessary resources, including garbage trucks, personnel, and equipment for the exercise. Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces ensured security and compliance during the clean-up. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that the streets and surroundings were left spotless and hygienic.
Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, the Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Zoomlion, encouraged traders, hawkers, and shop owners to actively participate in the exercise for their safety. She highlighted the importance of maintaining sanitary conditions to prevent the spread of diseases.
The Ga Mantse and Zoomlion officials emphasized the need for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enforce sanitation by-laws to promote cleanliness in Accra. The collaborative effort between the Ga Mantse, government agencies, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited showcased the commitment to keeping the city clean and hygienic for all residents.
