The well-known modernist Turkish writer Füruzan, whose real name was Feruze Çerçi, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.

The obituary information Furuzan is yet to be made public. Füruzan, who was born in Istanbul on October 29, 1939, won the 1972 Sait Faik Story Award for her debut novel, “Parasız Yatılı” (also known as “Free Boarding School”).
Translations of Füruzan’s stories have been made into French, Spanish, Persian, Italian, Japanese, English, Russian, Bulgarian, Bosnian, and other languages.
2010 saw the release of her critically acclaimed book in France (Pensionnaire d’état, Bleu autour), translated by Elif Deniz and Pierre Vincent.
