On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced a significant reorganization of his administration in response to rumors of an impending “Valentine’s Day” reorganization.
The president removed 13 ministers and 10 deputy ministers from their positions overall, reassigning some of them.
Ken Ofori-Atta, the minister of finance, and Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the minister of roads and highways, are only two of the prominent figures the president fired.
The other ministers that lost their jobs were Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation; Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister of Health; and Dan Kwaku Botwe, Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development.
These are President Akufo-Addo’s latest appointees.
Regional Minister for Greater Accra has been appointed, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover. Henry Quartey, who is currently holding the position, is leaving for the Interior Ministry.
Ambrose Dery, the interior minister, has been moved to the President’s Office as a Minister of State.
The Ministry of Health will receive Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye.
In lieu of Freda Prempeh, Lydia Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, is on her way to the Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry.
The new Minister of Tourism will be Andrew Egyepa Mercer, a Sekondi MP and the current Deputy Minister of Energy. He takes Dr. Mohammed Awal’s seat.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie will be replaced at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation by Ophelia Hayford Mensah, MP for Mfantesman.
The Information Ministry will continue to employ Ms. Fatimatu Abubakar, but in a substantive capacity.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, her previous boss, transfers to Works and Housing.
To succeed Kwasi Amoako-Attah as Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye departs the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Dan Kwaku Botwe, the current Local Government Ministry’s leader, will be replaced by Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the deputy local government minister, who will also stay there.
The defeated Walewale MP, Zuweira Lariba, will be replaced at the Gender Ministry by Okaikoi South MP Darkoa Newman.
The deputy ministers are Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, MP for Effiduase Asokore, Prince Hamid Armah, MP for Kwesimintim, and Abdul-Aziz Musah Ayaba, MP for Mion.
