Freemasons from all corners of Ghana and beyond are set to converge in Kumasi this weekend to celebrate two important milestones in the life of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II: his 25th anniversary on the Golden Stool and his 25th anniversary as a Freemason.

The event will also mark the Grand Lodge of Ghana’s 15th anniversary, adding to the significance of the occasion. The celebration is scheduled to take place at the reputable Sir Agyemang Prempeh II Masonic Hall, where dignitaries and members will pay tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who serves as the Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II assumed the role of Ashanti King in 1999 and has been a loyal supporter of Freemasonry during his reign. The commemoration will include a formal Masonic ceremony followed by a joyful gathering at the Jubilee Hall in Manhyia, fostering camaraderie and a sense of brotherhood among attendees.

Established on January 24, 2009, the Grand Lodge of Ghana functions as a “Sovereign Masonic Body” overseeing numerous subordinate lodges and organized into four provincial Grand Lodges: South West (Cape Coast), South East (Accra), North (Kumasi), and East (Lome & Volta). The United Grand Lodge of England was the first to acknowledge the newly formed Grand Lodge of Ghana.

The initial Grand Master was Most Worshipful Brother Charles William Stanley-Pierre, succeeded by Most Worshipful Brother Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI in 2013, and Most Worshipful Brother N/Capt Kwadjo Adunkwa Butah in 2017. The current Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Nana Osei Atwene Bonsu, assumed office in May 2021, embodying the Grand Lodge’s motto, “That All Shall Be One,” highlighting its dedication to unity.

As the gathering approaches, anticipation and excitement are building for this momentous occasion that celebrates the rich history and values of Freemasonry within the context of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s enduring legacy and commitment to the craft. It promises to be an event filled with tradition, honor, and the spirit of togetherness that Freemasonry embodies.
