The nation’s weddings, bar mitzvahs, high school reunions, and any other event where people of all ages danced had a soundtrack thanks to Fred White (born Frederick Eugene Adams), who played drums for Earth, Wind & Fire and helped propel some of the funkiest songs in pop history. Fred White passed away on Sunday. He was 67.

His brother Verdine White, the bassist for the group, posted a message on Instagram announcing his passing. There was no cause or location of death mentioned in the notice.

From the middle of the 1970s until the beginning of the 1980s, when Earth, Wind & Fire produced a lot of its most well-known music, Fred White was a member of the band.

On January 13, 1955, in Chicago, Frederick Eugene Adams was born. Edna Parker White, a housewife, was the mother he and Maurice both had. Verdine Sr., his dad, was a podiatrist. Fred started playing the drums at age 9.
