Francesco Matrone, an Italian camorrista, was born on July 15, 1947, in Scafati, Campania, and died on October 5, 2023.
He was placed on the “most wanted list” of the Italian Ministry of Interior for a murder that occurred in 2007 as well as other claims involving organized crime before he was apprehended on August 17, 2012, in Battipaglia (Campania).
In the 1980s, when Carmine Alfieri was the erstwhile godfather of the Nuova Famiglia, Matrone was his right-hand man. Following the breakup of the Nuova Famiglia, Francesco Matrone managed one of the most powerful clans with its seat in the Province of Salerno.
For his two killings, Matrone received two life sentences. With Pasquale Loreto (now pentito), Matrone ruled the Camorra’s Loreto-Matrone clan. Matrone, often known as A’ belva (“The beast”), is suspected of hiding money in Salerno’s taverns and eateries.
