Four individuals have found themselves in hot water after being arrested for the theft of Biometric Voter Registration kits belonging to the Electoral Commission. The accused have been charged with various counts of stealing and dishonestly receiving and have been remanded into Police custody.

Among the four individuals facing charges, three are officials of the Electoral Commission, namely Philip Lartey, Benyamin Fianyi, and Joseph Blankson Adumadzie. The fourth individual is identified as Clifford Yeboah, a student. The three Electoral Commission staff members have been charged with counts of stealing and conspiracy to steal, while the student, Clifford Yeboah, faces a count of dishonestly receiving.

Despite the charges brought against them, all four individuals have pleaded not guilty. The case involves the reported theft of five Dell laptops, which are part of the Biometric Voter Registration kits that include a laptop, printer, scanner, battery, and biometric device.

During the investigation, three HP laptops were recovered from the student, Clifford Yeboah. It was revealed through police investigation that the incident took place on March 9, 2024, when officials of the commission entrusted casual workers and security officers to transfer materials from their old head office to a warehouse.

The theft was reportedly planned by the second and third accused persons, with the third accused person stealing an HP printer and passing it on to another individual. The fourth accused person took three Biometric Verification Device Printer Chargers, while another individual took three HP laptop computers. The laptops were then distributed among the accused individuals for safekeeping and repair.
