The New Patriotic Party(NPP), held an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Accra Sports Stadium today to thank the almighty God for his love and favour he showed them during this year’s election.
The NPP went into opposition for eight years after the lost the seat to the National Democratic congress in 2008 but have come back strong this year to reclaim the seat after a resounding victory in the just ended election.
President-Elect Nana Akufo-Addo who spoke to a party faithful and sympathizers at the event held at the Accra sports stadium reminded them of the task ahead and asked for the support and prayers.
Here are four things Nana Addo said at the thanksgiving service that you need to know.
1. Nana Addo condemned attacks by alledged supporters of the New Patriotic Party on members of the governing National Democratic Congress and has asked Ghanaians to forgive eachother and move on as one country.
He said:“ I do recognize that there have been some instances of misconduct and altercation that should not have happened. Such behaviour is unbecoming of us. I call on all Ghanaians to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity towards one another, and to forgive anybody who has wronged or hurt you.”
2. Nana Akufo-Addo admitted that the New Patriotic party was cash strapped going into this elections but they were steadfast in the lord and believed that the lord was going to win the battle and truly the lord won the battle for the NPP.
3. He said the conduct of Ghanaians on election day and after, and the outcome of the polls prove that Ghana is “a blessed country.”
He said:“We must thank Ghanaians. On December 7 Ghanaians proved once again that we can and did it once again. I’m grateful to the millions who voted for me. We must thank the Good Lord for the many unsung heroes who volunteered. We are a blessed people in Ghana and must appreciate the goodness of the Lord to deserve His grace. We took courage and worked in the full knowledge that the battle was the Lord’s.”
4. Nana Addo reminded the teeming supporters of the daunting task ahead, saying “even as we praise God for his immense kindness and grace towards our county, we also know we have a lot of work ahead of us. It is a task that we can and will perform with your support and with your hard work, and with your increasing prayers and blessings of the Almighty God. Let us then renew our faith and strength and be ready for the work ahead. I have no doubt at all that we shall succeed. This is the appointed time and I have no doubt at all that the battle is still the Lord’s”.
