download 2022 07 11T162436.679 1Steve Bannon, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has said that he is willing to testify before the House Select Committee looking into the assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, reversing his position from late last year when he refused to comply with the panel’s subpoena and was indicted as a result.

Bannon’s lawyer, Robert Costello, wrote to committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson on Saturday to let him know that his client was prepared to speak during the open session.

On Saturday, Trump wrote to Costello and Bannon, stating that if the two parties could agree on a date, time, and location for Bannon’s hearing, he would waive executive privilege.

The timing of Bannon’s change coincides with the beginning of his court case at the Justice Department, causing many to question the motive of the former White House staffer.

Bannon would however have to first take a recorded deposition in a private room, as has been the procedure for previous witnesses.
