Former Asante Kotoko defender, Eric Donkor, has made a shocking revelation about being approached to fix a match during his time at the club.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Donkor disclosed that he was approached to fix a match involving a team that was facing relegation and needed points to stay in the league. Despite the pressure, Donkor maintained his integrity and turned down the offer.

“I recall being asked to personally fix a match during my playing days. It involved a team that was in the relegation zone and was an away game for Kotoko, but I declined it. Based on the results I received, I’m sure they called a few other players as well. I value my integrity so much and those who know me personally know that,” Donkor explained.

Donkor also expressed his concerns about the influence of betting companies on local teams and players. He believes that as long as players are not paid properly, they will continue to be vulnerable to match-fixing proposals.

The former defender’s revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by players in the Ghanaian football industry.
