Patrick Wisdom Krampah, the former headmaster of Ahamansu L. A. Erishad Primary School in the Oti Region, was taken into custody by the Jasikan Police last Monday after they claimed he had received GH¢72,759.32 in unpaid salaries.
Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), gave the Ghana Education Service (GES) Kadjebi District Directorate instructions last Friday to call the police and have Krampah arrested for financial impropriety against the government.
According to a source close to the Jasikan Police, who verified the suspect’s arrest to the Daily Graphic, Krampah was helping the police with their inquiries.
The PAC discovered that on February 1, 2018, Krampah resigned from his position as headteacher to work as a project assistant for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
Presented before the committee on January 31, 2024, the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report on the Account of Ghana – Ministries, Departments, and Other Agencies for the year ended December 31, 2020, was the source of this information.
According to the report, Krampah was paid salaries that were not earned between February 2018 and June 2020.
The District Director of Education is advised by the Auditor-General to retrieve the money from Krampah and deposit it into the Auditor-General’s Recovery Account at the Bank of Ghana, along with interest charged at the current bank rate.
The district director and validators should be held liable for the outstanding amount in default. The Public Financial Management Regulation was broken by Krampah’s actions, as Dr. Avedzi made plain.
