Felix Magath, a former coach of Bayern Munich, is showing interest in the Ghana position, which became open after Chris Hughton was fired.

Following Ghana’s underwhelming performance at the current 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which saw them crash out in the group stage in Cote d’Ivoire, the Irish-Ghanaian was fired.

The three group games the four-time African champions played were lackluster, and in the last group match, they gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 and lose the tournament.

Hughton’s poor performance cost him his job; a search committee was immediately established to find a replacement, and Magath, whose agent Vukoja says is interested in the role, may be that person.

In an exclusive interview, Felix Magath’s agent told our source that, “Felix Magath has a great interest in the Ghana national team.”

Magath, 70, satisfies the qualifications set by the Ghana FA for the committee looking for a new coach because he is a proven winner with a wealth of experience.

Before turning to coaching, the German played professional football, winning three Bundesliga titles, the European Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and two silver medals at the World Cup.

He’s had a great coaching career as well. He can brag of having coached Bayern Munich for three years, winning two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal (German Cups). He has managed several clubs, most of them German.

Along with winning the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, he was named German Football Manager of the Year three times.

The search committee has three weeks to find Hughton’s replacement, and with his impressive resume, Magath might be a serious contender. The GFA has set this deadline. The Black Stars are in desperate need of a new beginning, and Magath’s reputation as a tough coach may be exactly what the group needs to bring out the best in its highly skilled players.
