Opoku Nti, the former CEO of Asante Kotoko, recently opened up about his time leading the club, describing it as a job full of sacrifices.

Nti revealed that during his interim role, he had numerous one-on-one meetings with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II until a new board was put in place. Despite his efforts, Nti found himself in a position where his role was not clearly defined, leading him to personally finance the club’s activities.

“I sacrificed a lot for Kotoko, and I did everything I could,” Nti said in an interview with Joy Sports. Nti unexpectedly took over from Dr. KK Sarpong and served as a special advisor until Sarpong’s resignation. With the club facing financial difficulties, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II asked Nti to step in and lead the club until a new board and management team could be established.

“I was under the impression that the board was supposed to finance the club, but I ended up doing it myself because there was no other option,” Nti explained. He highlighted the challenges of financing the club, making sure funds were used wisely, and ensuring that players were paid on time to keep their spirits high.

“It was important for me to make sure that players received their salaries and bonuses promptly because it has a huge impact on their mindset and performance on the field,” Nti said. Despite the challenges he faced, Nti’s dedication to Asante Kotoko was unwavering, and his sacrifices helped the club weather a difficult period in its history.
