The High Court of Cape Coast has ordered Professor Dominic Fobih, a former Kufuor cabinet minister of education, to pardon his son and nephew for protesting his marriage to a thirty-year-old woman.
The court rules that there are no legitimate grounds for the lawsuit since it does not understand why the 80-year-old is unable to wed Mary Nyamekye Oduro, the love of his life.
You might remember the intense public attention and uproar in May 2023 following the former minister’s traditional wedding video’s viral success.
The caveators argued that Prof. Fobih’s decision to wed Mary was flawed since he had experienced and recovered from a stroke.
Additionally, they contended that the fifty-year age gap between their father and his wife would negatively impact the marriage and lead to a contentious divorce, which had been the outcome of his previous three marriages.
The woman was also not spared, as it was said that she married a man that age for ulterior motives. They even said she had a history of cheating.
The caveators, or family members, were concerned. They feared the woman would hurt their father and persuade him to give her his belongings. They perceived her as a threat.
The court also needed to determine whether Professor Fobih was still wed to Beatrice Boateng. He claimed that they split up in 2020, and the judge accepted.
Ultimately, Justice Bernard Bentil, the judge, determined that the caveators had no valid arguments against the marriage. Mary Nyamekye and Professor Fobih were given permission by the court to wed.
Professor Fobih was urged by the judge to pardon his nephew and son. In addition, he mandated that the three relatives who were against the marriage pay fines of GHC 20,000, GHC 20,000, and GHC 10,000 apiece.
