Footballer Stefan Abadzhiev dies at 89

Bulgarian football striker Stefan Atanasov Abadzhiev represented his country in the 1966 FIFA World Cup.

Abadzhiev spent fifteen years playing for Levski Sofia, where he played for most of his club career.

He won four Bulgarian Cups and three league championships with Levski. He participated in the 1960 Summer Olympics men’s competition as well.

After his retirement, Abadzhiev engaged in business across his home country and occasionally played golf at his leisure time.

He helped groome the younger generation of players in Bulgaria and is commended for that.

As a father he was not distant, he could be seen attending games with his children who are rumored to be footballers at this time.

Abadzhiev will always be remembered for his lanky stature at the midfield of his country’s nationa team. His commanding attitude showed many why he gained captainship years later.

At the age of 89, Abadzhiev passed away on March 13, 2024. Stefan Abadzhiev was survived by his wife and 4 children.
