On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Ibrahim Mahama’s Dzata Cement celebrated an incredible milestone in Ghanaian industrial entrepreneurship as the company seeks to challenge and establish itself as a fast-growing, increasingly recognized brand in Ghana’s construction industry.

After five solid years, Dzata has become more than cement to many Ghanaians, it has become the key opening many doors for the average individual, the springboard to opportunities, network and employment. Dzata has become the exception to the rule where large scale industrial ventures, particularly in the cement industry had to be owned by foreign companies.

Established by sole share holder and Group Chief Officer of DZATA Holdings, Ibrahim Mahama, the company is expected to produce its 30 millionth bag of cement in the next few days marking a significant mile stone while celebrating five years of operations. For many, Dzata Cement is a testament to the fact that, Ghanaian entrepreneurs can conceive, build, operate and finance large scale industrial businesses and create enterprises capable of competing in sectors critical to national development.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, being able to demonstrate that Ghanaians could build major businesses rather than remain dependent on foreign-owned enterprises was one of the motivations that led him to the establishment of the cement manufacturing company.

The cement manufacturing operation which sits on a 10 acres plot of land near the Tema port has seen an investment of more than $100 million. German technological giants and equipment developer Haver & Boecker produces ordinary portland cement with bagging lines capable of averaging 120 bags per minute. The company boasts of an operating capacity of about 80,000 bags per day and over two million tonnes annually.

According to Mr Ibrahim Mahama, his non involvement in the day to day activities of the company sterns from the decision to give young people an opportunity to learn, make their own mistakes and grow.

Five years of Dzata cement wasn’t achieved on a silver platter. Mr Mahama took time to speak of his early days as a cement transporter and how his awakening moment came after he followed some of his trucks to the Ghacem facility in Takoradi where he took a closer look at how the cement was produced.

According to Mr Mahama, the quite observation became an investment decision, influencing his travel to Germany where he engaged many equipment manufacturers began putting together the financing required to establish the facility.

However, like many start ups, he encountered significant financial and operational challenges during the construction and installation, highlighting the support he received from some family members and other individuals who contributed to the completion and installation of the equipment.

He also acknowledged the support of the former Trade Minister, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten during the administration of the erstwhile government of president Nana Akuffo Addo.

Managing Director and daughter of Mr Mahama, Nafisa Mahama said the fifth anniversary was an opportunity to express gratitude to the customers whose confidence and trust were pillars that contributed to reaching this mile stone. She also pledged to make employee welfare a priority as the company entered its next phase.

With plans far advanced to strengthen the manufacturing capacity and market position of the company, expanding its cement portfolio, introducing additional grades and exploring a possible 25kg bag alongside the current 50kg packaging remains one of the companies immediate priorities.
