Five officials from the Electoral Commission of Ghana have recently been interdicted following an alleged theft of some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs). These suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigations, as confirmed by Dr Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC.

During an update on the case of the missing devices, Dr Quaicoe emphasized the importance of transferring the suspects to the police in order to facilitate thorough investigations into the incident. The Commission is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for stealing state assets are held accountable.

Dr Quaicoe also provided insight into the circumstances surrounding the missing BVDs, revealing that one device was lost in North Tongu. He explained that the devices are typically packaged in ballot boxes for transportation, and in this particular instance, the ballot boxes containing the BVDs could not be transported as planned.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to the identification of suspects involved in the theft. The interdicted officials are now undergoing investigations and will reportedly be arraigned before court in the near future to face appropriate legal consequences.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana remains committed to upholding transparency and integrity in the electoral process, and this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding state assets and ensuring accountability among officials responsible for handling sensitive equipment.
