About ten rooms have been destroyed by a fire that broke out at Angola in Accra Newtown, close to the Mallam Atta Market in the Ayawaso North District of the Greater Accra area.

Numerous individuals have been homeless as a result of the outbreak, the origin of which is still unknown.

It is said that the regrettable incident happened in the afternoon of Tuesday. Four tenders were sent to the area to put the situation under control, according to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service’s Public Relations Department.

Accessibility to the site was problematic, ADO1 Nartey told Accra-based Citi News, therefore they requested additional reinforcement at Abelemkpe, Flagstaff House, and headquarters.

He stated that when they found exposed wires, firefighters also had difficulties and had to contact the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to turn off the electricity in the area.

“The problem was that there was still electricity passing through the area, making firefighting difficult. And with a place like this, we realized that the wiring, they could even see naked wire passing through, so if our men had made a mistake by applying water on these naked wires, it could have been life-threatening. So we had to rely on ECG to cut power supply to the area,” he narrated.

He claimed that firemen put in a lot of overtime to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.

ADO1 Nartey went on to urge assemblies to give priority to the construction of fire service stations, pointing out that the assembly lacked resources and that fire tenders had to travel great distances.
