The Ghana National Fire Service’s Agona West Municipal Command registered 37 fires last year, compared to 40 in 2022, according to Commander DO3 DO III IS-haq Kambari.
The station reported 13 cases in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the 10 counts during the same period in 2023, indicating 42 and 30 percent, respectively, he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
He claimed that there were 14 business fires reported in the second quarter of 2022, compared to 12 in the following year. In the third quarter of 2022, there were nine vehicle fires, compared to four in 2023.
The Fire Commander stated that the cause of fires caused by human activity during the last quarter of the year was the most concerning task facing the staff and that the Command had implemented efficient mechanisms to step up campaigns to decrease fire outbreaks during Christmas celebrations.
He noted that another issue was the dearth of water hydrants, which made it very challenging to contain fires as was necessary to save lives and property.
Since such acts caused issues for legitimate distress callers seeking aid, he issued a warning against unscrupulous people making hoax calls to fire stations and threatened to prosecute anyone discovered.
