The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Karaga, has stepped in to address a critical issue facing the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

Dr. Adam has generously donated 10 polytanks to help increase the hospital’s water storage capacity, as well as GHC 100,000 for the refurbishment of an outdated underground tank.

These underground tanks, which were decommissioned during Phase 1 of the TTH Project, had storage capacities of 138.6 cubic meters and 65 cubic meters respectively. The estimated cost of refurbishment for these tanks is GHS420,000 as of 2023, placing a significant financial burden on the hospital. Dr. Adam has pledged to alleviate this burden by contributing towards the refurbishment costs.

In addition to the water storage assistance, Dr. Amin Adam has promised to donate three dialysis machines to supplement the hospital’s current inventory. During his recent visit to the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. Adam announced that these machines would arrive in the country within three weeks, with delivery to the facility expected in a month.

The CEO of TTH, Dr. Adam Atiku, expressed gratitude for the generous donation and assured that the hospital would effectively utilize the contributions. He emphasized the strain on existing machines due to the hospital’s monopoly market status in northern Ghana, highlighting the need for support from individuals and organizations to address these challenges sustainably.

Patients and their relatives at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have been grappling with water scarcity issues for years, with some having to purchase water from outside or resort to using sachet water for basic needs. The intervention by Minister Adam is expected to greatly improve operational efficiency and enhance healthcare delivery at the hospital, which serves as the main referral center for five regions in the North and neighboring countries.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital has faced significant challenges over the years, particularly in water storage, impacting its ability to provide crucial healthcare services. With Dr. Adam’s support, the hospital looks forward to addressing these issues and improving overall patient care.
