With 29 of the 32 countries set to compete in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, three spots remain open, with eight countries vying for them, including Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas, Scott McTominay, and Andriy Yarmolenko.
WALES, SCOTLAND OR UKRAINE
From Europe’s quota of 13, Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine will take the final spot.
Scotland and Ukraine will meet in Glasgow in June, with the winner facing Wales in a playoff final in Cardiff later that month.
COSTA RICA OR NEW ZEALAND
On Wednesday, New Zealand defeated the Solomon Islands 5-0 to win the Oceania Football Confederation’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
However, being the best team in the OFC does not guarantee World Cup qualification.
If New Zealand want to reach Qatar 2022, they must win another elimination match. On the 13th or 14th of June, they will play Costa Rica in Doha.
Costa Rica came in fourth place in the CONCACAF final group stage.
PERU, AUSTRALIA OR UAE
Peru must win an inter-confederation playoff against a nation from the Asian Football Confederation in order to qualify for Qatar 2022 as the fifth-placed side in South American qualifying.
That match will take place in Doha on June 13 or 14, and will pit the United Arab Emirates against either Australia or the United Arab Emirates.
On June 7, Australia will face the UAE in Doha, where they have participated as an Asian team since quitting the OFC in 2006.
In the last group stage of AFC qualifying, both Australia and the UAE finished third.
Saudi Arabia and Japan qualified ahead of Australia, while the UAE came last in their pool, behind Iran and South Korea.
