It’s finally official. Now we know which teams will play the opening match.
The opening match at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been decided.
This was decided at the World Cup draw held on Friday, April 1, 2022, in Qatar.
The host nation will play against Ecuador in the opening match, scheduled for Monday, November 21, 2022. 64 matches will be played at the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The two national teams have been placed in Group Q, alongside Senegal and the Netherlands.
In late March, bother Ecuador and Uruguay have secured their spots at soccer’s World Cup in Qatar.
The third-placed Ecuadorians lost 3-1 at Paraguay during their last match, but they achieved one of the four direct spots after the Uruguayans, in the fourth position, beat Peru 1-0 in Montevideo, a result that also allowed them to book their flights to Qatar.
Ecuador and Uruguay reached 25 points on the table, which didn’t create rooms for other teams to overtake them.
