From the streets of Paterson, New Jersey, where he was born in 1991, hip-hop performer Fetty Wap emerged.

He started out as a rapper, but it wasn’t until he started singing that he became well-known. He was given the name William Maxwell III, but due to extreme glaucoma in both of his eyes as a child, physicians were only able to salvage one of them. He thus began using a left prosthetic eye.

When he was only just starting out, the young artist’s first song, “Trap Queen,” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015. He made history by simultaneously ranking his first four songs in the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks Top 10 towards the conclusion of the year. The first Fetty Wap solo album, which was released in September 2015, had all four of the songs.

It also had 13 previously unreleased tracks, many of which featured beats or raps from his old Paterson friends, known as the “Remy Boyz” because of the excessive amounts of Remy Martin they drank.
