Fernando Botero Angulo was a Medellín-born Colombian figurative artist and sculptor who lived from 19 April 1932 to 15 September 2023.

His distinctive style, sometimes known as “Boterismo,” features exaggerated, large-scale depictions of people and objects that, depending on the painting, can either be taken as political satire or as fun. In his lifetime, he was regarded as the Latin American artist who was most well-known and most referenced.

Throughout the world, prominent locations like Park Avenue in New York City and the Champs-Élysées in Paris are home to his artwork at various points in time.

At the age of 91, Botero passed away in Monaco on September 15, 2023, as a result of complications from pneumonia.

The artist who refers to himself as “the most Colombian of Colombian artists” When Botero received the first prize at the Salón de Artistas Colombianos in 1958, he gained widespread recognition in his native Colombia.

He started making sculptures after relocating to Paris in 1973, and by the 1990s, he had won notoriety internationally and had exhibitions all over the world. Major international museums, businesses, and private collectors all collect his work. The Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center was given to him in 2012.
