According to rumors in Turkey, Mesut Ozil, a former midfielder for Arsenal, has had his contract with Fenerbahce cancelled.
After Arsenal decided to release him from his contract, the 33-year-old joined Fenerbahce 18 months ago.
However, the midfielder was given an indefinite suspension from Fenerbahce’s team in March as a result of an altercation with Ismail Kartal, the team’s head coach.
In May, Jorge Jesus succeeded Kartal as head coach, however NTV Spor reports that Ozil is not in the new boss’s plans and that the midfielder has mutually parted relations with the Turkish team.
According to the report, Ozil has already begun speaking with Istanbul Basaksehir, a team that last season placed fourth in the Turkish premier flight.
The midfielder, who was making £350,000 per week at Arsenal, would reportedly try to transition into eSports after his playing career is over, according to a statement made by Ozil’s agency last month.
‘He will go more into eSports, play himself and maybe become an eSports athlete,’ Dr Erkut Sogut told the Daily Telegraph.
