There are reports from Fotospor that Turkish football giants, Fenerbahce, have their sights set on a potential summer swoop for Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
Sources have revealed that Fenerbahce’s president, Ali Koç, has already engaged in discussions with the 30-year-old midfielder and his representatives. However, the likelihood of the transfer coming to fruition hinges on the upcoming presidential elections at Fenerbahce, which will shape the club’s future transfer plans.
Partey, who has faced a series of injuries in the past season, might find himself considered expendable under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s plans to inject more youthful energy into the squad. While undeniably talented, concerns have emerged over Partey’s fitness issues, especially as he nears his 31st birthday. It remains uncertain whether these concerns will diminish with time.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Partey is on the brink of leaving Arsenal. During an appearance on the JD Football Show on YouTube, Romano hinted that Arsenal has identified Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz and Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi as potential replacements for Partey.
“Thomas [Partey] will leave. Arsenal has several players lined up, so there is a good chance they will bring in a new midfielder,” Romano stated during the show.
However, Fenerbahce might face tough competition for Partey’s signature, as other top clubs including Barcelona, Juventus, and various Saudi Arabian teams have also shown interest in the Ghanaian midfielder.
Partey endured a challenging season in the recently concluded Premier League, making just 14 appearances for Arsenal, with only nine of those being starts. The midfielder made the switch to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 after the Gunners triggered his £45 million release clause.
