Abdulai Zalia, a 27-year-old woman from Nalerigu, has been arrested by the West Mamprusi Police Command for the alleged abduction of a 13-month-old infant in Walewale, North East Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 18, 2024, while the child’s mother was asleep in an open area of their home. Upon returning from a late-night football match, the baby’s father noticed the child missing beside his sleeping wife, prompting the couple to report the situation to the police.

The Crime Investigative Department (CID) acted swiftly, taking custody of the 13-month-old baby and apprehending the suspected abductor, Abdulai Zalia, on the same day of the incident. Some locals claim that the accused woman has a history of mental illness and involvement in petty thefts in the area.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are planning to bring the woman before the Walewale Court of Law on Friday, April 19. The community is shocked by the event and eager to see justice served in this case of baby theft.
