According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the Hyundai Grace school bus with registration number GE 2291-10, which was transporting the schoolchildren, reportedly turned onto the main road without checking for oncoming vehicles, resulting in a collision with a state-registered vehicle, a white Nissan Patrol with registration number GT 8455-19, owned by a District Chief Executive who was traveling from Accra to Kumasi.

Locals and other travelers who were on the route at the time of the incident helped reach the victims and assisted in getting them to the two hospitals.

Local sources for Citi News have additionally verified that a number of the injured have been moved to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua to receive additional care.

Investigators from the Nkawkaw MTTD have also started looking into the accident after visiting the scene.

The community as a whole was shocked by the news, and relatives and friends of the victims flocked to both hospitals.
