Renowned fashion icon Iris Apfel passed away at the age of 102 in her home in Palm Beach, Florida. Known for her vibrant and eclectic style, Apfel’s agent described her as extraordinary and visionary.

With her iconic oversized glasses, she saw the world in a kaleidoscope of color and patterns, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Apfel’s career spanned from working at Women’s Wear Daily to becoming an interior designer and running the textile company Old World Weavers with her late husband, Carl.

In 2005, the Metropolitan Museum of Art honored her with an exhibition showcasing her unique wardrobe, titled “Rara Avis: Selections From the Iris Apfel Collection.”

The exhibition led to the publication of the coffee-table book “Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel” in 2007, increasing her fame.

At the age of 97, she even signed a modeling contract with IMG. Additionally, the documentary “Iris” by Albert Maysles premiered at the New York Film Festival in 2014.

Apfel’s legacy as a fashion maven and style icon will continue to inspire generations to come. At this time, no memorial plans have been announced to celebrate her remarkable life and contributions to the world of fashion and design.
