In a tragic incident in Ghana, a 35-year-old farmer lost his life while attempting to rescue a neighbor’s drowning goat from a community well.
The farmer, identified as Owusu, had agreed with his neighbor on a fee of GHS 70 if he could successfully save the animal. However, before entering the well, Owusu failed to assess its depth, which ultimately led to his demise.
After just two minutes of entering the well, Owusu disappeared from view, leading bystanders to suspect he had drowned. The Ghana Fire Service was called to the scene, and a team of personnel was dispatched to recover his body.
It took three personnel to retrieve Owusu’s lifeless body and that of the goat from the deep well.
An official from the Ghana Fire Service reported that the victim had likely sustained head injuries during his rescue attempt, as evidenced by the visible injuries on his head. After retrieving the bodies, Owusu’s remains were turned over to officers from the local police station for further investigation.
This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of impulsive and unprepared rescue attempts, especially when dealing with deep water sources.
It is a heartbreaking loss for Owusu’s family and community, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
