The brother of the late Prof Atta Mills, Samuel Atta Mills, has made shocking allegations regarding the recent clash at the wreath-laying ceremony to honor the 12th anniversary of President Mills’ passing. According to Mr. Atta Mills, the group involved in the altercation was a “rented family” organized by dismissed deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight, Mr. Atta Mills revealed that Mr. Anyidoho had paid individuals an amount of GH₵200 to attend the ceremony. He expressed frustration that this “rented family” had overstepped their agreed schedule, causing delays and unfairness to the real family.

The disruption occurred when Koku Anyidoho exceeded his allotted time, impacting a subsequent NDC event at the same venue. Mr. Atta Mills attributed the confusion to National Security and emphasized that the Atta-Mills family would take necessary action to prevent Mr. Anyidoho from overstepping in the future.

Furthermore, Mr. Atta Mills dismissed claims that the group was related to the former president’s maternal side, asserting that Mr. Anyidoho did not know the family as well as he claimed to. The incident has sparked tensions and a vow from the Atta Mills’ family to address the situation through legal, spiritual, physical, or any other means necessary.

The clash at the memorial service has raised questions about the organization of such events and the involvement of external groups. This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges involved in commemorating the legacy of prominent figures in Ghana’s political history.
