Deborah Fawolere, a six-month pregnant woman who passed away at the Gbagada General Hospital, was accused by her family of being the cause of her demise.
Idowu Fawolere, the late wife’s husband, refuted claims made by her sister Toluwalase Adedoyin that he had physically abused the woman even during her seventh pregnancy in an interview with PUNCH Metro.
Adedoyin disclosed that her deceased sister had repeatedly fled Fawolere’s home as a result of abuse and aggression.
Adedoyin claims, “This morning, my younger sister passed away. She had been beaten by her spouse prior to her death today. He had been beating her up. Given her state, we think the physical attack negatively impacted her health. For this man, she had given birth to six children.
She went on, “My late sister told one of our sisters that her husband and his older brother used to beat her up just yesterday (Monday).” She said that neither of them was making her life pleasant and that she didn’t feel at ease in the house.
Her story was denied by Fawolere, who called the accusations “cooked-up stories” and said that his late wife had given her relatives incorrect information.
The Divisional Police Officer, Oworonsoki, Bello Taofeek, responded to the allegation by stating that the police had reported the incident to the division and had requested that the husband be brought in for questioning.
Joke Ladenegan-Oginni, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency’s spokesperson, encouraged the family to submit the incident to the organization for additional support and investigation.
This incident occurs soon after a domestic violence case from December 2023 in the Olota district of the Alimosho Local Government district, where a husband is accused of killing his wife over a disagreement over dinner.
