Mark Dodson, the actor known for voicing some of the small creatures in “Gremlins,” has passed away, according to reports from TMZ.
Dodson, who also lent his voice to characters in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” “Day of the Dead,” and numerous video games, was still making appearances at fan conventions. His daughter revealed to TMZ that he died while in Evansville, Indiana, to attend Horror Con.
She mentioned that Dodson had flown to Indiana for the event and checked into his hotel, where he suffered a “massive heart attack” while sleeping.
Dodson’s big break in Hollywood came in 1983 when he voiced Salacious Crumb, the high-pitched creature always dangerously close to Jabba the Hut in “Return of the Jedi.”
The following year, Dodson found another iconic role in “Gremlins,” where he voiced Mogwai, unintentionally inspiring children worldwide to imitate his voice in 1984.
Throughout his career spanning several decades in film, video games, radio, and commercials, Dodson added his “unique voice and sounds to every character and script he touched,” according to his representative.
His daughter Ciara expressed, “He never stopped making me proud,” and believes his legacy will endure through his grandchildren and his work.
Mark Dodson was 64 years old. Rest in peace.
