Faith Evans parents: Meet Richard Swain, Helene Evans

None other than Richard Swain and Helene Evans are Faith Evans’ parents. Her father was a musician of English and possibly Italian ancestry, and she was born to an African American mother who is a professional singer.

Prior to her birth, her father abandoned her. Her mother left Faith with her cousin when she was 19 years old and went back to New Jersey. There were nearly 100 kids living with foster parents while she was being raised.

She was raised in a Christian household, and as a result, at the age of two, she started singing at church. She caught the interest of the Emmanuel Baptist Church congregation when she was just 4 years old.

She sang with a different jazz band while in college, and her mother supported her. She had such a beautiful voice, and everyone praised her for her talent.

Evans studied marketing at New York City’s Fordham University before leaving a year later to give birth to her daughter Chyna with her husband, music producer Kiyamma Griffin.
