Prof. Fabian Osuji, a former minister of education, has passed away at the age of 82.
It was learned that Osuji passed away early on February 28, 2024, a Wednesday.
According to a family member, the deceased returned last Saturday from a vacation in the United States where he received medical attention for unidentified illnesses.

Born on January 20, 1942, Osuji attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu State; Government College, Umuahia in Abia State; and the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State.
His post-doctoral research was conducted in London’s Imperial College of Science and Technology.
In 1973, the former minister was promoted to Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor in the University of Ibadan’s Department of Zoology. He remained in this role until 1981.
In addition, he held visiting scientific fellowships at the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Osuji was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Dean of the College of Science, and a member of the Imo State University Governing Council.
From 1997 to 1999, he held the position of Professor of Applied Biology at St. John’s University in New York (CUNY), USA.
Additionally, he served as a visiting professor at numerous universities both in Nigeria and abroad. Osuji, who is regarded as an academics’ scholar, has 35 publications and volumes to his name.
