Celebrity endorsement of political parties in Ghana is the trending news now as the December polls approach fast. We have seen the likes of John Dumelo, Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Mzbel, Matilda Asare, Cwesi Oteng, Praye, and a host of others throw their weights behind the two leading political parties ahead of the polls.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday, September 30, 2016, took to social media to publicly announce that he has been endorsed by Hiplife duo, Ruff N Smooth – consisting of Bullet (Ricky Nana Agyemang) and Akhan (Clement Baah Foh).

According to Nana Addo, the duo came to his office to endorse him and showed an “unflinching support for him”.  Nana Addo captioned a couple of photos he took with the visitors with the message: “Hiplife duo, ‘Ruff N Smooth’, were at my office this afternoon to declare their unflinching support for me ahead of the December election. #RuffNSmooth4Nana #ChangeIsComing”

The news was on all the major news outlets across the country because the group is one of the biggest in the industry. But his post and the endorsement he claimed were misleading.

It even misled Myjoyonline.com and many others.

We (Ghanafuo.com) visited his page and spotted some lies. In the photos uploaded to Nana Addo’s nearly 1 million following Facebook page, we could only spot Bullet of Ruff N Smooth and his friends whereas Akhan was missing but it was captioned “Ruff N Smooth endorses Nana Addo” on many news websites.

To quench our curiosity thirst, we contacted Ahkan where he disclosed to us that he is currently not in the country and that, he was not part of the endorsement. “You know I am not in the country so I wasn’t part of the endorsement,” Ahkan told Ghanafuo.com

He further disclosed that he hasn’t declared his support for any political party so he should be left out.
We have reached out to Bullet but he is currently on the plane leaving the country.

So to those who believed the news, clear your mind. And to those who claimed the duo declared their support for Nana Addo, do a bit fact checks and change your headlines from “Ruff N Smooth endorses Nana Addo” to “Bullet endorses Nana Addo”. It wasn’t the group who endorsed him — it was an individual who did.
