Renowned former Black Stars player, Stephen Appiah, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections in December.

The former captain of the Black Stars is set to contest for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat in what promises to be a thrilling political race.

The news of Appiah’s decision to run for office was disclosed by his close friend, Fiifi Tackie, who serves as the spokesperson for the Ayew family. This revelation has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, as Appiah prepares to go head-to-head against incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP and the highly-rated John Dumelo, who is also vying for the seat on the ticket of the NDC.

Stephen Appiah is no stranger to leading teams to victory, having famously captained the Black Stars during their first World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006. He also played a crucial role in securing World Cup qualification for Ghana in 2010, showcasing his leadership skills both on and off the field.

Throughout his illustrious career, Appiah represented Ghana at various levels, from youth to senior teams. His impressive resume includes playing for esteemed clubs such as Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, as well as Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus, Fenerbahçe, Cesena, and Vojvodina.

With 67 appearances for the Black Stars and 15 goals to his name, Stephen Appiah has proven himself to be a formidable force in Ghanaian football.
