Eva Zaoralova, a Czech journalist and 16-year creative director of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, died at the age of 89.
As artistic director, Zaoralova oversaw the festival’s rebirth in 1994, alongside renowned Czech actor Jiri Bartoska as president.
For the next 16 years, the former journalist and film professor was in charge of the event.
She became an artistic advisor after handing up the reigns of artistic director to Karel Och in 2010.
She contributed to promote Czech cinema on an international platform, partly through her association with the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), as well as popularize Italian and French cinema in her native country, through her work as a journalist.
