Essence Atkins, a New Yorker, is an actor and model. Since 1986, she has worked in the film industry, starting out in supporting roles. She didn’t begin playing more substantial, ongoing roles on TV sitcoms like Under the Same Roof, Malibu Shores, and Smart Guy until the middle of the 1990s.
