The chief of Esiama in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, Nana Ainoo Kwagyan III, has encouraged Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament (MP), to push the government to begin rehabilitation work on the bridge over the River Ankobra.
He pointed out that the bridge, which connects the Nzema region to other regions of the nation and neighboring La Côte D’Ivoire, is essential to socioeconomic development and that immediate action is required to prevent its collapse.
During Mr. Buah’s visit to his palace as part of the MP’s working tour of the Constituency, Nana Kwagyan III made this statement.
In order for work on the bridge to begin, he asked the MP to cooperate with the government and reminded them of how important the Ankobra Bridge is to the nation’s foreign trade.
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Buah, stated that he had asked the Minister of Roads and Highways about the procedures being followed in order for the bridge project to start on the floor of the legislature.
According to him, the House was notified by the sector minister that although the bridge was one of three granted on contract for rehabilitation, the loan designated for the project had not materialized.
However, he stated that the administration was determined to look into every alternative before starting construction on it.
According to Mr. Buah, the bridge needs to be repaired as soon as possible because of the economic activity that takes place between Ghana and other West African nations. If the bridge collapses, inter- and intra-national commerce will cease.
The Ghana News Agency was informed by authorities in the Ministry of Roads and Highway that the bridge’s repairs will shortly get underway.
